The 13^th Annual Conference of HKSTAM 2008-2009 in conjunction with the 5^th Jiangsu–Hong Kong Forum on Mechanics and Its Application, and Symposium on the Development of Mechanics in Macau will be held on March  13-14, 2009 (Friday and Saturday) at the University of Hong Kong and University of Macau.  This conference is co-organized by the Hong Kong Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (HKSTAM), the Jiangsu Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (JSTAM), and University of Macau.  This meeting is a forum for mechanics in all science and engineering disciplines.

Technical presentations will be given by four invited distinguished speakers (plenary lectures on solids and fluids, 40 minutes for each lecture), and by other participants (in parallel sessions, 15 minutes for each talk).  The due date of submitting one A4-page abstract in MS word file to Dr. C.O. Ng, the Secretary, is February  14, 2009.  The abstract must include title, authors, address and email.  An abstract template is attached here for your reference.  Pre-registration with the attached registration form is required.  The abstract and the filled registration form should be sent to Dr. C.O. Ng at <cong@hku.hk>. 

Registration Fee: 

a)    For non-local participants: HK$1,700 (covering pre-conference academic visits on March 10-13, one-way ferry from Hong Kong to Macau, and all meals and refreshments in the conference).

b)   For Hong Kong participants: HK$850* (covering one-way ferry from Hong Kong to Macau, one dinner, one lunch, and all refreshments).

c)    For Macau participants: HK$600 (covering one lunch, and all refreshments).

d)   A reduced fee applies to local full-time students (HK$350* for Hong Kong students; HK$100 for Macau students).

The fee is payable in cash on-site at the conference. *Hong Kong participants will also be entitled to a one-year full or student membership of HKSTAM with their registration fees.  

Transportation departing from Macau and accommodation in Macau are to be arranged individually by participants.  Some details about hotels in the neighbourhood of University  of Macau are also attached here for your information.
